Carpentry 801

Carpentry 801 introduces the student to a number of fundamental carpentry skills. All construction projects start from the ground up.  Floor systems will develop an understanding of the basic design principles of floor frame systems, while estimating, selecting and installing components of a residential floor system.  Students will also develop skills and knowledge in the safe use of portable hand and power tools.  Students will complete WHMIS training to industry standards.  Studnets will also continue to develop knowledge and skills related to manufactured building materials, and communication though drafting and trade math concepts.

A certain proficiency will be required in each skill before advancing to the next skill. These skills will involve construction techniques (framing, etc.) The first half of the semester will be spent in the classroom and the second half in the lab.

Classroom:

The following modules will be worked on in the classroom portion of this course.

1 WHMIS                                                                        11 questions

2 Manufactured Construction Products           33 questions

3 Building Loads and Forces                                  19 questions
